I was relieved to hear your energy saving solutions are so easy and inexpensive. The products you introduced to us are brilliant. We are always looking for ways to reduce the amount of wasted paper products and toxic chemicals we use in our home everyday. There is so much information now available to all of us on how to “Live Green.” Sometimes it’s been challenging wading through all the information and choosing which “green” products would best serve my needs.

I was delighted to discover Green It! because of the personal service Beth provided as well as the products I needed. What is a green home?

Compared to a conventional home, a green home uses less energy, water and natural resources; creates less waste; is smartly located and built with as little impact on the land it sits on as possible, and; is healthier for the people living inside.

If I'm not building a new home or remodeling, can I make my home green?

Without going into high priced construction projects there are many ways you can use less energy, water and natural resources on a daily basis in your home. The impact you will make on the earth can still be cut dramatically by making smaller, cost effective changes.

I've heard being green is expensive. Is this true?

No. There are many changes you can make that cost very little and allow you to save what you've spent in as little as a few weeks. While these changes have small price tags they have HUGE savings in both energy and water. This of course translates into large dollar savings and even larger benefits to the planet.

I've heard a lot about sustainability. What does that mean?

Sustainability is the principle of meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising future generations.

What are sustainable products?

Sustainable products generate less negative social, environmental and economic impacts from the point of production to the end user than conventional products.

How important is it for my home to be green?

I've been hearing the word greenwashing lately. What does that mean?

Greenwashing is when a company makes an unsubstantiated or misleading claim about the environmental benefits of a product, service, technology or company practice. It's a marketing tool to be aware of when making purchasing decisions.

I've tried CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Light) before and didn't like the way they looked. Are yours different?

Yes. CFLs have come a long way in the past year. There are many types of CFLs now that are instant starting so you don't have to wait for them to warm up. They are also available now in dimmables and three way. Your Eco Consultant will bring many lighting choices to your home that you can't find at the local big box hardware stores. You can see the choices in your fixtures and find the ones you like the best before you buy.

I've heard LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) are better than CFLs. How do I know which to choose?

The advantage of LEDs is that they don't produce any heat and last much longer than CFLs. The problem is the technology is still developing and they can't be used for every application. Your Eco Consultant will have a wide variety of LEDs with them in addition to the CFLs so together you can choose the best bulb for each room in your home.

How long does the inspection take and what will it consist of?

How much will I save by using your the Green It! service?

The answer to that question depends on the choices you make at the end of the inspections. A part of the report you will receive will tell you the average cost benefit of each of the recommendations. You'll know the savings you can accept before you make the decisions about the changes you want to make. Many of the changes we offer will pay for themselves in a few weeks and can save you hundreds of dollars every year.

More specifically, how much money can I expect to save each year with extended life or "green" light bulbs and/or water saver showerheads?

CFL bulbs will save you up to 70% on the electricity you use for lighting. If your electric bill is $200/month, 10% or $20 is lighting. You will save $14 (70%) a month with CFLs. That is a savings of $168/year! Not to mention you won't have to replace those bulbs for 5-9 years! Our Eco-Optimized showerhead saves a family of three approximately 7,665 gallons of water a year PLUS $230 in energy to heat that water.

Do water saver showerheads still provide good water pressure?

Yes but, instead of using 2.5 gallons of water per minute, you are using 1.5 gpm. I actually got better pressure from my low flow head than from the one I replaced.

What are some minor investments that I can make to change my house to a more green environment and what benefit can I see from them?

Our Eco-Optimized showerhead is $39.95. It will pay for itself in less than two months. A low flow aerator is less than $5. CFLs range in prices but will pay for themselves in a few months.
